CURATORS OF COOL
Chances are you’ve never felt the need to defend your profession, but as trend watchers, we sympathise with the likes of Lucy Worsley, Daniel Martin, Lucy Bamford and Ana Debenedetti, who are all museum curators. People often view this as a rather flat profession in which you just have to pick out matching art pieces, but there’s much more to it!
Aside from mix ‘n matching it’s also, if not even more, important to be an expert and live databank regarding the subjects surrounding the objects in care. This can be a challenge since the world we live in right now is mostly instant, quick and shallow. They have to snap out of this global movement and do on-going, deep diving research on the subjects at hand. Ana even states that the profession has become too vast to do all at once, which is why in big museums, multiple people are responsible for different parts of curating e.g. interpretation, learning or conservation.
