GROCERY CART CHIC
The shopping cart furniture line by Etienne Reijnders is a fine piece of work. Once in a while he visits the Germain company Wanzl, the largest manufacturer of shopping trolleys in the world, to collect discarded shopping carts, iron behemoths which otherwise were doomed to die in the smelter.
Is there a future for this type of upcycling? “companies like IKEA would probably not do this because recycling is cheaper,” says Reijnders. “But that does not mean upcycling cannot be automated. I own a couple of chairs which were pretty simple to produce”.
Together the furniture pieces of Reijnders form a sustainable interior. But that still does not give response to another important question regarding to sofas and chairs; is it pleasant to sit on it? “They are pretty comfortable” says he. “I studied furniture design, so first of all I think about the humane stance.”
Hands up if you think these creations are simply super cool?
