DIRTY WITH WESTWOOD
Vivienne Westwood has revealed the secret to her youthful looks, and it might surprise you. Her advice "Don't wash too much."
Westwood's views are part of a growing interest in the forgotten perks of dirt. Modern society has become addicted to daily showers and overscrubbing and thereby removing important microflora from the skin. Experts recommend bathing babies no more than three times a week and once or twice a week for 6- to 11-year-olds. Startups like AOBiome are tapping into to this trend and selling bacteria-rich body washes, shampoos, and sprays to keep those good skin bugs alive.
Westwood has been quoted for saying: "Normally at home, I’m not used to the habit of a shower. I just wash my bits and rush out in the morning." We agree, bits and pits are all that really matter. Somehow these words coming from the Queen of rebel fashion herself help us understand the bigger picture.
Remember the Skip Shower for Beef campaign with electronic music mastermind Moby? The concept of that campaign conveyed a give-and-take attitude, that we think consumers are becoming more susceptible too. In this case t was all about how one could earn a guilt free beef heavy meal by cutting out showers for a month. A bit over the top perhaps - but it did create awareness as to how connected everything is. There you have it; changing the world starts in the most personal of places, with your own bits and pits. The Queen said so.
