YOU'VE GOT MAIL
In the pre-Internet era, vacations were rated by the quality of the memories that we brought home in our mental carry-ons. We used to plan get-togethers to show photo albums to our loved ones and tell stories about our holiday adventures. Sharing real-time vacation photos with your family on distance is practical and nice on one-hand, but on the other hand there’s your granny without a Wi-Fi modem. You still visit her after your holidays to tell and show your stories, right?
Nowadays we all know that our on- and offline world is intertwined. Brands need to make the zigzag between this virtual and physical world seamlessly in order to survive and thrive. One of the brands that was able to tap into this Inline mindset is Dutch company ‘Omapost’ (Granny Mail). They developed an app that enables you to share your special ‘insta vacation moments’ via mail, sending it over directly to granny dearest.
Oma Post’s developers came up with the idea to develop this app to counter the current loneliness trend amongst elderly people. Aside from sending your own grandparents a card, you also have the possibility to send it to a random elderly to brighten up their day and let them know there’s someone out there thinking of them.
Fun fact: while running a co-creation app-focused project with one of our clients, Oma Post was also mentioned. The respondents didn’t use the app to stay in touch with their grandparents, but solely for convenience reasons. They used it to easily create and send personalized postcards to either colleagues, friends or family. Brand bandits on the rise!
Make sure you don’t forget to visit your granny’s patio in the midst of all this digital comfort, as the thing she loves most is a big ol’ hug!
