LIVING IT UP WITH NESTERLY
Nesterly is a new app that makes multi-generational living more attractive by pairing users who are in need of affordable living space with those who have room to spare.
At Nesterly, we’re committed to changing the way that we use our homes. Housing in cities is expensive. At the same time, many people have more space than they need. Nesterly makes it easy for households with extra rooms to connect with trusted, vetted people who are looking for medium-term housing.
With more than 50 million bedrooms sitting empty each night, and many people living in housing that is mismatched to their needs, it’s time for a new approach. Created by MIT Urban Planning graduates Noelle Marcus and Rachel Goor, Nesterly tackles this challenge. Established neighborhood households who have room to spare help those in need of affordable housing by offering them a room with a lower rent in exchange for help around the house. Nesterly bridges the gap between empty nesters, who have an abundance of space after their children move out, and Millennials on the hunt for affordable an living space in popular cities.
Similar to Airbnb, Nesterly users create a listing for their space. Those who are looking to rent create a profile with relevant personal information before they browse listings, and choose one that fits their need. The host chooses whether or not to match with the renter. Once the match is confirmed by the host, the two parties chat to get to know each other. If the match is successful and both parties decide to move forward, a homesharing agreement is made and a new household is formed, with some god company as an added bonus.
With Nesterly, the housing squeeze in big cities can be relieved. But just as importantly, this app connects two generations who can now cuddle up on the couch to share stories and learn from each other. Remember, ironically, it is often in the most overcrowded cities that people tend to get the most lonely. The creators of Nesterly hope to enrich lives of hosts and renters by bringing liveliness to homes. Winning!
