SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED, IT'S YOURS!
If you’ve been a long-time follower of Anticipate, you may have read our interview with designer Mirjam de Bruijn regarding her project Twenty: a range of sustainable cleaning products by way of reusable packaging. Now there’s a new platform on the rise that uses similar mechanics, but on a much bigger scale.
Loop, which is launching soon, is a platform that takes inspiration from the good ol’ milkman delivery system. For those not familiar, a milkman used to deliver fresh milk to people’s houses, who in their turn would drink it (duh!), after which the milkman would come pick up the empty bottles to be refilled back at the farmer. That’s what you get when subscribed to Loop, but ironically enough milk is not one of the options you can choose from.
What they do offer, is refillable containers from some of the biggest household brands. Think Axe, Oral B, Pantene, Dove, The Body Shop, and Häagen-Dazs amongst others. This way you never run out of shower cream, deodorant or tooth paste! Simply notify Loop when you’re close to finishing a product and they’ll schedule a delivery to replenish your stock and pick up your empty containers in exchange.
This corporate solution (Unilever, Nestlé and PepsiCo are among the contributors) plays into this need of contributing to a more sustainable and circular world, which can prove to be quite a challenge in a society where products become more and more disposable. However, the younger generations are becoming increasingly aware of their polluting ways and feel the need to counter this phenomenon of over consumerism. Doing so is a new way for them to acquire status, because living responsibly means you’ve got your sh*t together.
For now, you can only register for Loop when you reside in either Paris or New York. We’ll be first in line when Amsterdam gets added to that list, but only if they adopt our way of transport and deliver by bike instead of car. ;)
