ON THE LOOKOUT
One of this month’s emerging mindsets revolves around being mindful of the choices you make. Both choices that impact you as a person, as well as your surroundings. A mindful state of being can be hard to achieve though, as people feel the need to constantly check their e-mail, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram or any other social medium of choice. Being mindful hardly fits into this picture. However, there are solutions to this problem, some more fitting than others…
Lookout is of one these solutions to this very real dilemma (or is it). Every time you’re looking down on your phone, their nifty little camera attachment will show you your surroundings. This basically indicates you won’t ever have to look up again, wicked! Their device tilts the angle of the camera, which means you look up by looking down. With the catchy phrase: “Don’t look up, lookout” they capture the true essence of the lookout camera. You be the judge! Check out their invention below.
As you have hopefully noticed, this clip and its accompanying product are intended as satire, but it does address a problem we are facing. Our phones seem to be the centre of attention all the time, but it’s time for people to realize that having a rest and taking care of your mind is also important. Disconnecting and being present in the moment is one way of achieving this.
Some designers take it one step further and don’t just raise awareness to this problem, but also provide (albeit speculative) solutions. This next example we spotted at Dutch Design Week, offers a solution to our sometimes obsessive online behavior. Meet Obsessiogram.
Be sure to be on the lookout (bad um tss) for the continuation of our holistic adventure. See you next week!
