THEY SEE ME ROLLING
Today’s children have been using phones, tablets and TVs for as long as they can remember. If you give a two-year-old a tablet, he or she will probably track down the fun stuff within minutes. But some say children don’t use their imagination as much as they used to because of all these screens. However, in a world where everything is becoming increasingly digital, it’s difficult to raise your kids Off The Grid. But what if we told you, you can get the best of both worlds?
The Storyball is a screenless device that narrates a story using gamification elements. While storytelling, children are tasked with short actions (movements & sounds) to actively engage them. One starts the game through an app set up by the parents. Instead of using a controller, the child has to perform physical actions to progress. So when the device says jump, you have to jump to continue. Additionally, the Storyball also provides riddles that children can solve, while parents can check the learning curve of their child through the same app.
The technology within the product is very sleek and almost invisible, blurring the line between online and offline. Children might not even notice that there is any connection between the two, which was one of Storyball’s ambitions. Given that we are already living in a hybrid world, the Inline trend is more prominent than ever. However, at MARE we always find it important to underline the importance of humanizing technology, which is what Storyball managed to do.
