MIND OVER MATTER
We’ve all been through moments where we’d rather disappear into thin air after an embarrassing mistake, asking ourselves how and why we got in this miserable situation to begin with. However, especially in business, there’s no such thing as crawling away in a corner, as you have to remain professional and do your job. At one point you just have to go “ahh f*ck it”, overcome your mistake and nail the task at hand. But how does one achieve this mentality in such times of horror?
That is what Dutch platform NSMBL and clothing brand Sloggi wanted to find out by organizing their “Zero f*cks given” event. Five well known influencers started off the night by each sharing their tedious and awkward moments, but also how they managed to get themselves out of it by embodying this aforementioned mindset: “f*ck it, let’s go!”. NSMBL says that the night was about inspiration, power, confidence, comfort and authenticity, which indeed sounds like a safe space for sharing your flubs. You might wonder what Sloggi has to do with all of this. Well, what do you need during your moments of shame? That’s right, Sloggi’s new comfortable underwear line. Seems like a natural fit, or does it?
Aside from linking to Serendipity Seeking’s beta mentality, the platform of NSMBL is also a clear example of Cool Curation. The platform and its tone of voice are intended to make you feel like you’re reading articles written by a close friend, which establishes trust between sender and receiver. The medium as the filter that helps you navigate the clutter of the internet, saving you time and effort. And by means of hosting events like the one above, they further build up their community and enable readers to bond over cool content.
The event caught our eye, because it shows clear resemblance with the well-known phenomenon of “f*ck up nights”, which took the world by storm when they launched a few years ago. These events are mostly centered around destigmatizing failure in business by celebrating trial and error, whereas NSMBL’s event focuses on tips and tricks on how to overcome moments of shame and panic.
